Etymology
"The term "SCUBA" (an acronym for "self-contained underwater breathing apparatus") originally referred to United States combat frogmen's oxygen rebreathers, developed during World War II by Christian J. Lambertsen for underwater warfare. "SCUBA" was originally an acronym, but is now generally used as a common noun or adjective, "scuba"." ([1])
