Supermicro Naming Convention

Supermicro uses a structured naming system that includes a combination of letters and numbers to represent motherboard series, chipset compatibility, socket type, and additional features.

Series Prefix (First Letter)

The first letter(s) of the motherboard model indicate its target usage and chipset family:

  • X – Workstation and high-end server motherboards.
  • H – High-performance server motherboards, optimized for enterprise workloads.
  • B – Embedded and compact motherboards designed for edge computing.
  • C – General-purpose server motherboards with a focus on scalability.
  • M – Motherboards designed for micro-ATX and mini-ITX form factors.
  • A – Motherboards designed for AMD-based platforms.

Example: In X12SPA-T, "X" denotes a workstation/server motherboard.
