Little Sahara Sand Dune Guide

"Little Sahara Recreation Area is a designated and managed off-highway-vehicle open area Managed by the Bureau of Land Management. It features 60,000 acres of sand dunes, trails, and sagebrush flats. The recreation area is about 12 miles long (north to south) and 10 miles wide. Sand Mountain, a wall of sand climbing nearly 700 feet, is the primary focal point for hill climbing. The sand dunes, on the northern side of the recreation area, have plentiful riding “bowls.” The low-lying dunes southwest of Black Mountain provide good terrain for beginners or for those who just want to get away from the crowds. Black Mountain provides a network of dirt trails up, over, and around a peak, offering excellent trail riding for just about any kind of OHV."

ksl.com - BLM looks to raise fees at popular recreation area

"JUAB COUNTY -- Federal officials are proposing a hefty increase in fees at one of Utah's most popular recreation areas.
Depending on which plan you choose, it could nearly double the cost of racing around on the Little Sahara sand dunes.
To some degree, we've all been subsidizing the recreation at Little Sahara whether we go there or not. That's because the place loses money. The shortfall has to be made up by U.S. taxpayers. That's what officials hope to change. "

"BLM is Seeking Public Comments thru Jan. 19Willard R. Fulmer Visitor Center
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Fillmore Field Office is currently accepting written public input on proposals included in the Draft Little Sahara Recreation Area Business Plan that would modify the Special Recreation Permit fee schedule for this popular Utah recreation destination. The primary objectives for potential future revenues generated is to enhance the quality of visitor experiences and cover the rising operational costs of administering, monitoring, maintaining and improving visitor services and facilities offered at Little Sahara Recreation Area.
The Little Sahara Recreation Area is a 60,000-acre sand dune complex in Juab County, Utah that provides a variety of off-highway vehicle riding opportunities for an average of 204,000 visitors each year. Special Recreation Permit Fees cover the use of all recreational facilities, including a visitor center, four campgrounds, flush and vault toilets, water, trash removal, and a dump station. The Federal Lands Recreation Enhancement Act provides the BLM with the authority to require the purchase of Special Recreation Permits on public lands that meet specified criteria. Fees at the Little Sahara Recreation Area have historically been increased every three to four years to keep pace with rising operational costs; however, fees have not been increased since 2003."
