Platform Controller Hub (PCH)
Chipset PCH -
A Platform Controller Hub (PCH) is a microchip on a motherboard that manages data flow and communication between the CPU and attached peripherals. It essentially acts as the traffic controller for your computer's input/output (I/O) functions.

What the PCH Does
- I/O Management: Handles communication for your USB ports, audio, SATA (hard drives), and network cards.
- PCIe Lanes: Provides extra lanes for expansion cards and certain NVMe SSDs that don't plug directly into the CPU.
- Power Management: Helps coordinate the energy requirements and sleep states for different hardware components.
PCH vs. Motherboard Chipset
In modern computing, the terms "PCH" and "chipset" are mostly synonymous. Historically, motherboards had two main chips: a Northbridge and a Southbridge. Intel replaced these with the single-chip PCH. The PCH handles all the traditional Southbridge duties, while Northbridge functions (like memory controllers) are now built directly into the CPU itself.
