Archive and Backup of Email

Archiving your Email

"Using the ImportExportTools extension
The ImportExportTools extension can be used to import or export messages (.eml files) or folders (mbox files). It can also export all of the messages in a folder as either HTML or plain text files, plus an index. This extension used to be called the MboxImport extension.
You could archive individual messages as .eml file or folders as mbox files, save them somewhere else, delete the original, and then import them again later on if needed. If its more convenient you could use the Archive! button from the Buttons! extension to archive messages as .eml files and just use this extension to import them. You could also use the MboxViewer to view archived folders if you didn't want to import them again."

Backup Mail Folder

How to Archive Mozilla Thunderbird Mail Folders - About Email - http://email.about.com/od/mozillathunderbirdtips/qt/et_archive_mail.htm

  1. Make sure Mozilla Thunderbird is not running.
  2. Go to your Mozilla Thunderbird profile directory.
  3. Open the Mail folder.
  4. Look for the file named like the Mozilla Thunderbird folder you want to archive in the Local Folders or an account-specific sub-folder (such as pop.gmail.com, for example). Make sure you pick the file that has no extension no the identically named file with the .msf extension. (The right file is Archive, for example, not Archive.msf.)

gContactSync

gContactSync should have prompted you to enter your e-mail address and password (assuming you have the latest version).

If it doesn't prompt you, you can go to the menu in TB -> Options -> Options -> Security -> Passwords -> Saved Passwords. You should see at least one entry for site: "chrome://gContactSync". Click the one with the e-mail address giving you the error then click Remove. This will remove the expired token from Thunderbird and you should be prompted to sign in next time you sync. [1]

Default to Paragraph or Body Text

owymx.png

I have found that to set the default to "Paragraph" or "Body Text", you need to navigate from the main menu:

  • Tools->Options->"Composition" region -> "General" tab

In the HTML section, find the option for "When using paragraph format, the enter key creates a new paragraph"

Select that option if you want "Paragraph" as the default. Deselect that option if you want "Body Text" as the default.
